Romance genre comparisons

Similarities Differences
  •  Always a voice over, introducing the film. Gives the audience and enigma as the audience isn't always shown what he/she looks like.
  • Couples intimate moments 
  • Protagonist shows there past stories/events
  • Attractive male and female protagonist 
  • Voice over tends talks about love
  • Shows familiar locations, which audience can relate to. 
  • Camera tends to follow the protagonist through the opening. 
  • Male and female protagonist introduced in the openings                             
  • In the sliver linings playbook, shows the male protagonist talking about losing the person he loves, setting shows that hes prison home.
  • Opening to all of these tend to start from different stage of there relationship, instead of meeting the first love, i.e starts from a break up.
  • Seasonal locations in the film, The holiday set during Christmas time. Relates to couples spending time together. 
  • The holiday, shows more than one couple, suggesting there's more than one protagonist.
  • Dear john shows the first meet of the male and female protagonist, relates to what is typically expected in romance genre.
  • Dear John also shows that is telling a story, showing past love events in the protagonist life
