Hair tutorials analysis

Here we have looked at different hair styles which we could possible use on the protagonist. For our opening 2 minutes, we have based it on a new girl going to college. so basing upon college, i have looked into different videos relating to college/school hairstyles, which could be worn everyday. The reason for having a everyday hairstyle, is to reflect back to the target audience, for having more of a youth range, which would usually be at school/college,which could give them an idea of different hairstyles that they could possibly use. Also looking at these tutorials we will trial some of these hairstyles to see which would look better out of the combinations. The first video gives three simple hairstyles for school/college, which included a lot of curls and tieing the hair back ,with braids. These are effective as they usually keep hair out of the face. However we need to trial different styles for different hair shapes, as each hairstyle will suit certain head shapes. For our female protagonist, we would want her to have a hair style which would suit her and on her first day of school, from the voice over it does mention about her looks, as she does make a small effort as its her first day at college.

Another hair tutorial, focuses on specifically on straight hair, and shows how to get the best results within straightening hair and how to maintain that. I was think that the female protagonists should have straight hair, as this will reflect that she has made an effort on her first day at college. From the voice over does mention about her making an effort, so for this to be presented in the opening would be important, as it will reflect the voice over and of what she is trying to say. We will be doing some practices and trials on this so there will be trials and will judge based on them trials, and see whether it will suit the protagonist or not, we will also see whether it will suit the setting of the opening. In this video it shows us a step by step on how this hairstyle is created. This hairstyle creates a sophisticated look, and would suit if someone/protagonist be wearing this hairstyle as it will show sophistication and shows that they have made an effort for school/college.

Soundtrack anaylsis

The holiday

In the opening to the holiday, the sound track in the background which complements the voiceover, has warm, calming effect, which allows the audience to engage with the film, by setting the atmosphere, to fit the romance genre. The non diegetic sound is quite loud at the beginning of the film as the voiceover wasn't present, which showed the audience, that there is a couple on a honeymoon, and they were dancing and being very intimate towards each other. which shows a typical event of what happens in a romance film, and the music add to the convention that in romance films usually there is an acoustic guitar, or a violin playing throughout the opening. usually the soundtrack is played quite quietly when the voiceover is playing, so we would be considering this when editing our film and adding the sound track in. As the opening is shown the music increases tempo, and this effective, because it tries to show that time has passed with the narratives, for example when she refers to a types of love so when the couple are in the car and shows that the man is no longer interested in the women, and cuts to the setting with the Christmas light, and the music increases tempo, to show that with time love can change. This shows another convention of romance films as the music will refer to the narrative, and can adds to the atmosphere to a scene.

Life as we know it
The non-diegetic sound in the film life as we know it, is quite upbeat, and and continues as the opening is showing the women is getting ready for her date. The music also shows her attitude towards, and shows how she is making an effort for her date. The music also links to the codes and conventions of a romance film, as its a way of showing the female protagonist personality, and the soundtrack creates a romantic atmosphere, with the trumpet being played for short amount of time during the opening of the film. For our own film we will be having some music then have voice over which will link to both the analysis as they use either voice-over then soundtrack or only use one. The soundtrack is effective within a romantic film because it allow create an atmosphere for the audience to sense of what is going on in the opening, so it will make them feel more part of the film as they will experience what the protagonist is feeling in the opening. so it would relate to her in some way, as this may have have happen to them at some point in there life , so watching this film will show and experience and will show a different perspective of how this situation is being shown.

Beastly

The soundtrack for this film links quite closely with story line of the film. As the film is about appearances and the sound track link to that as the they sing about the male protagonist, being known as the perfect looking one, and shows how much effort he puts into his looks, in order to attraction from the public, especially from the high school/college. This identities the target audience for the film through the soundtrack, as the singer sound very feminine, which would appeal mostly toward females, and would gain attraction towards the male protagonist, which will make them feel as if they are apart of the film as well, so they will be apart the experience. The sound track is effective in this opening two minutes as it
links closely about what the film is about, and also reflects intentions from the male protagonist, and this will be shown through his personality. The soundtrack also reflects the codes and convention of a romance film, as it reflects a lot on appearance, to look attractive, and this is seen through the way the male is training, so that is attracts the female audience.

Makeup tutorials anaylsis

For our makeup, we have looked in YouTube tutorial. For our opening 2 minutes we have decided to look into a natural base look for the protagonist. As we think that makeup should be quite neutral for school/college. However during the filming there may need extra, so its able to show up on camera. so this may include extra foundation or power, for the makeup to be visible on camera.

The first makeup tutorial, is quite good because its quite a neutral, but looks more on like there has been effort made. Especially with the eyes as there isn't really heavy, as she only uses mascara  but the use of light colour of pinks/light orange eye shadow for a pale skin will suit the the base of the face. The lips aren't as heavy, and its a neutral look as it isn't as bold look. This would be a good tutorial to use because it would be suitable for a teenager to use and will also show the protagonist character, and personality. But this look would need to be adapted for different skin types and tones, for this look, so we would have to trial different shades to adapt different tones.

The next tutorial that we had found which would be suitable for our opening 2 minutes, as the protagonist could be wearing during that time. I think this would be a good tutorial to use as there doesn't show as much makeup used for it to be as noticeable in real life, however on camera there would be more makeup needed for it to be noticeable for the audience. Also this would be a good tutorial to use and practice, because it will the the female protagonist personality, and will show innocence, with suttle look of the makeup. This would be suitable for all skin types because the makeup used will show up well on camera, giving it a flawless look, and this could shown on the female protagonist, as this will suit her and the role she will be playing as the new girl starting college, and making an appearance on her first day. The makeup will reflect a fresh look on the protagonist, as it will show that she is trying to make a small amount of effort on her first day. For the camera we would make sure that most of her facial feature would stand out, by adding slight bit of eyeliner, and more mascara, enhance her eyes, and make sure that her lip have neutral colour, so that camera can catch the colour.

This makeup tutorial gives tips on how to achieve different makeup looks, in certain settings, for example from the this video, i found out that the amount of makeup that is put on whether its more or less, it will show up on a high quality camera, so we need to make sure that the make isn't too much to look overdone on camera, however there should be enough makeup for makeup to be noticed for us to achieve for the cast to be wearing to reflect the personality of the characters or protagonists.  Using a HD powder or spf powders would work well on camera reduces flash back, making it less shiny, so watching this, we will consider and trial  whether it would suit our setting and camera. Another thing is to look out for the light of the setting or location, as seen it tells us that make should preferable be done in the location where the filming is going to take place.

Plan for filming

We have decide to keep a diary of when we do film, however we have an outline of what needs to be film and what need to practiced and trialed within this post. Within the diary of filming posts we will include behind the scenes, and include the journeys through the process of making our opening 2 minutes.

Practices:

  • Different camera angles of the female protagonist- to see which one will suit the protagonist
  • Costume trailing- see which outfit looks better for the scenes
  • Lighting - film footage 2/3 times and check how the lighting is included, maybe one in dark lighting, one in mix of dark and really bright lighting, and maybe a neutral lighting. This will be important with the makeup,as it will show how much makeup should be used on the protagonist, so that it doesn't look too much.
  • Setting and location- take photographs of possible setting which will be filmed See post on setting and location of the film.
  • Makeup tutorials- look at video and practice some and photograph them. See post on makeup analysis, and trials.

Filming process:
  • Film outside footage. includes of bus stop scene
  • Long shot of the house
  • Female protagonist traveling to school.
  • Film the Bus stop scene - bus stop scene may need to film more than once, to trial different camera angles, and for the timing of the arrival of the bus and when it set off.
  • Shot of the male protagonist, walking toward the school, and have a shot him having a glimpse look at the female protagonist.
  • location and scenery need to filmed, with and establishing shots.
  • introduction of the protagonists new friend, met in common room- shot of the common room, and dialogue of the friend talking to the protagonist.
  • Two shot of them walking to the study room.
  • shot reverse shot of the them talking.
  • Male protagonist making an appearance into the study room.

Setting and location of our film

This is one of the setting which we have decided to film in, we have have decide to film in one of the study rooms, in the sixth form block. In this room, during filming will have a group of people sat in a circled during filming. This room will also show the one of the scenes where the two protagonists will meet and will show glimpse look at each other, this will also start the dialogue which will let the target audience into personality of the protagonists. In this shot or location of the film will have a short dialogue between the protagonist and her friend. we think this would be a good place to film because it will allow the to show the school/college. this will link with the target audience of the film of being teenagers and older. they will be able to relate to the setting and be familiar of the normal routine for school.

This is another angle of the same classroom, but this will be when the male protagonist will make an entrance into the class room, so he will make an entrance but will realize that he is in the wrong classroom. we have taken the photo from this angle as it will show him coming in and see everyone, but then will sit down at the end of the table next to the door. In this shot or in this room will show the next glimpse of each other. we also think this will good setting, because the room has good lighting which could use, and will show up quite well on camera.

We went onto google images and found one of our locations which we will be filming in. we chose to use Dilston road because we were going to corner with the white gates to start to introduce the female protagonist from the corner, and this is where the audience will start to follow the female protagonist as she will enter into school, down this pavement will introduce the male protagonist as well as they will have there first glimps of each other, which the voice over will compliement it as well. the lighting shown on google images may not match how we might film it due to the natural lighting an the weather, which can have an impact on the lighting of the overall film. During film we would possble have a bit of extra lighting which comes with the camera which will increase a bit of the lighting of the setting but not a lot.

Certificate rating for own film

For our film I have decided that the film will have be a 12 rating.
This is because our film is based a lot on teenage romance, which would appeal to a younger audience, as some of the events that occur in the film, they may have experienced Putting this rating will broaden the youth audience, allowing more people of different ages to go watch the film. They may relate to some of the event that will happen during the film or during the opening scene. It links to the codes and conventions of romance films, because most films are rated at a 12 some include of The fault in our stars, and love Rosie are all 12 ratings , so I will be linking closely to fit with the conventions of a romance film .

Voiceover analysis

http://putlocker.tw/watch-the-fault-in-our-stars-online-free-putlocker-2014.html

(watch first 1 minute 8seconds)

The fault in our stars

The voice over shown in the fault in our stars, has been spoken by the female protagonist, she talks about her family, as her mum forces her to join the cancer support group , and talks about her illness of having cancer, and her struggles though it as well. Her voice sound very sarcastic, because she seems as if she has lost hope for what her future holds for her, and always refers to talking about death. The voice over for this film, allows the audience to find out a bit more about the protagonist and her personality, and also gives the audience an insight of what her life is like and what she focuses on and shows some of her likes and dislikes. The tone on her voice sound shows a lot of sarcasm and shows that she isn't showing any excitement. She also tries to get the audience involved, so making them seem involved with whats going around her life, so trying to have a normal conversation
with them.

The holiday

The opening 2 minutes of the film the holiday, it immediately starts off with the female protagonist, talking about her love life, and it seem as if she is talking directly to the audience. The tone of voice when she is talking sound as if she is desperate for love and talks about what could be the male protagonist. Also the desperation of her tone of voice increase through the opening as the events show that they are both present at the same party. The female protagonist covers different types of love, this effective because it allows the audience to relate to the types of love shown through the scenes. We then hear her talking about the types of love she is in, which she has been in for a long time.

For our opening 2 minute, we will include a female protagonist as the voice over, talking about her past story, and what she does on an everyday life, and have a mellow tone, so she will be talking directly toward the audience, as this is really common in most romance film, as they get them involved in the film and into there lives. The voice over will also introduce who the female protagonist is, so giving the audience an idea of who the protagonist is on a more personal level.

Analyzing opening titles

The opening titles for the fault in our stars, gives an introduction to the film. The font of the title has been shown as using colored chalk on a black background. This could represent a way of teaching a lesson in the past, to educate children or even people. The black background gives a empty look, with the handwritten chalk text, gives a memorable effect of this statement being the title of the film, as its may link back into the film and may refer to talk about the story line, and might talk about why this statement is important within the film, which then leaves an enigma code for the audience, because to find out why this is important, as it could reflect a thought of the protagonist. The handwritten chalk text may link to the genre of a romance film, because the statement "The fault in our stars" may refer to a couple that may have got together unexpectedly, so they may have not realized that they could be couple, as they may have the protagonist may have a low self-esteem, so the statement may reflect that as well. The colours used in the title are blue and white. The effect of using the colour white in the font is that it symbolizes innocence, purity, and this has been shown through the text, as it may refer to the protagonist, feelings and emotions, and this could give an idea of there personality. The colour blue is effective as it highlights the two important words "fault" "stars" emphasis these points which are key within the film, the fault may refer to something not being normal, and referring to stars as it could lead to dreams and hopes, which may not be normal. The layout of the title is in the middle of the of the background, showing that its something that is important throughout the film and the audience could possibly be referring to it later.

The opening titles for the film Endless love, gives an immediate introduction to the film, so that the audience are familiar with what they are watching. The Title has two different fonts, 'Endless' the font used there is called Trebuchet MS. The effect of using that font is that it gives a modern look to the title, as this is may show that it could be based on modern day relationship, which then would appeal to a more modern, younger audience around 16 and above, as some of the events may relate to them. The font used for the word 'Love' is called Arial, and it has been highlight in bold. The effect of using this font is that the bold text emphasizes the what could the story line of the film, which then links to the genre of the film as it has been clear shown that this film is a romance film, as the title defines it. The effect of using two different fonts is that it allows to show two different meaning of the film so it could show different sides of what could be endless love, so it could showing in different perspectives. The black background gives a empty look to the title and the effect of using black is that it could leave a mystery for the audience to find out what the title is trying to say, but complements it well with the white title. The effect of using white is that it could represent innocence, purity and perfection. This is effective because it could could link to a a perspective of what love is and may refer to a type of personality of what could be the protagonist. The title has been placed in the middle, to emphasis the importance of the title, which may indicate the story line and might happen through the film, The size of the font is about small/medium as it could show that point of a relationship, which will be shown in the film.

The Font used for the title for the note book is Times new roman, this is effective because it give an old look, which can also lead to giving hints of what the film could be about, as it could be referring to the past. The colour of the font used is white, which represents purity, and innocence. This could link to the overall film and how the title has been represented, as it could be referring to the past and showing that there may be a record of what had happen, which could be memorable for the audience. The background which complements the text is showing a sunset, with a man on a boat. The effect of using red is that it connotes passion, desire, and love, which can also show that the story could be about a past relationships, and it could be that the protagonist is telling a story. The sunset could show that its apart of the day and that the protagonist during the opening scene(as analysed) shows she looking though the window, connoting  that she is waiting for someone, and shows that she has been waiting for a long time

What we will include is that the opening titles should have a black ground as it something that has come up most frequently in past films, and the title will have a modern style text, as our film would appeal a younger audience, due to the events that will be shown in the film, for example a college day with students. The possible colour that could be use for the title is  white, as it could show innocence, and will outline the protagonist personality.

Analysis of audience questionaire

We asked people about the genre romance films, and asking about different conventions within a that genre, we also asked about their interest as well.

From the questionnaire we found out that the age range that watch romance films is mainly the 15-19, this links to a typically convention that around this age these types of people tend watch romance films. The reason behind this could be that the content shown within a romance film may relate to them, as the some of the events that occur, may relate to them, so for example relationships and what they go through, involving a couple, also the problems that they go though, may also relate to real life couples and their relationships and watching these types of films, could give a solutions to different problems that certain relationships go through. Romance films also give the audience set expectations on how relationships and certain events in society should be; people may have certain expectations within relationships, from watching this genre of films, which they want to happen in real life.
We also asked about what possible settings they would expect in a romance film or to an opening scene, and most for these responses were either as street, park, and school/college. These were most popular because from the questionnaire these came up most frequently. The reason behind this could be that romantic films are mostly set in these locations, and it’s where couple will usually spend time or will have most for the scenes together in those locations. This also could give us an idea of what type of location we should set our opening scene on. The most common places were the park or a school/college. So this will be considered when choosing a location for our opening. Also form the questionnaire we asked what their favourite romance movie was, and based on their choice we got a selection and considering what they include and how that links to the codes and convention of a romance and so have links with them as well.
We asked the public about what they expect the male and female protagonist's personality, to be like. For the female protagonist we found out that typically they should come across as innocent, flirtatious, friendly and cute. These all should be considered as the audience would expect this type of personality from the female protagonist, so this may be from their experience, as they may have watched previous romance films and should expect these features of the personality from them. For the male protagonist, the public decided that his personality should confident, flirtatious and friendly. This will be considered when choosing cast and how they should act during the opening scene.
We asked the public about what types of music do they expect to hear in the opening scene pf a romance film, and most of the responses came out with majority saying they would prefer to hear a guitar acoustic, or something soft and gentle. The reason behind this could be that typically in an opening we would usually hear something that is relaxing, but yet introduces the male and female protagonist, or have something that connotes love and relationships. So when choosing music which will be non copy righted music we will consider these aspects when choosing music to put in the background of our opening.

Lastly we asked about what should be expected in an opening. The most popular response was having a voice over and opening to the setting, and introduction of the protagonists. These are typically shown in a romance and film and should be included, as these are expectations which the audience want to see when watching a romance film. So these will be included in our opening scene so that it fits the codes and conventions of a romance film, and to fulfil the audiences expectations.

Script

We have chosen to start with a monologue which will be a voice over. Then we will have a small section of dialogue. This is what the female protagonist is going to be saying:

Leola: You might think I'm a little dressed up for going to sixth form. In reality, its my first day. I'm Leola. An average 17 year old. Well. I say average. I don't get invited to parties. When I do, it’s always me sat in the corner, trying to get involved but really, just wanting to go home. I have always been the outsider with my dad's job changing what feels like every week, it means I have new schools to go to all the time. Once I start getting settled, I pack up and move yet again. That's why I'm still single. Never had a boyfriend because I don't want to get too attached. So here I am. A not so average 17 year old waiting for the bus. I mean.....

(She looks across the road to notice an attractive male. He notices her back but carries on walking.)

(The film carries on with Leola's journey to sixth form)

Leola: (Under her breath) this place is a dump.

Miranda: (bubbly) Hi. My name is Miranda! Are you new?

Leola: Yeah.

Miranda: Well let me show you around. What's your first lesson?

Leola: English.

Miranda: Snap! Come on. I’ll show you.

Leola: Okay....

(Walking down the corridor)

Miranda: mimes a conversation

(In the classroom)

Miranda: Come and sit next to me.

Leola: Thanks.

(Leola looks towards the door)

Miranda: That's Alex. Every girls dream.

Leola: Oh...

(Alex notices her and smirks. They both turn away)

(Miranda waves at him and he waves back)

Leola: Oh. You know him?

New pitch idea

In our opening two minutes, there will be a female protagonist, a male protagonist and their friends. The female protagonist is making her way to her new school where it is her first day. She spots a man across the road and they both glance at each other. There will be a scene at the bus stop where they glance at each other again. Then once the girl gets off the bus, she walks into her collage. She then sits down where she attracts new people to her. She already knows one person in her new school and she brings over a small group of people to meet her. They then head of to class where the male protagonist is sitting at the front. The female protagonist joins her friend at the back of the classroom where she notices him looking back at her. Once he notices that she saw him he immediately turns back around to face the front. The male protagonist hides his emotions towards the girl.

Throughout the rest of the film, the two get paired together for a presentation where they quickly become close. There is a group of girls which spread rumours around that they are together which causes him to become disgusted, acting like he doesn't like her. This causes her to become upset because she thought that he liked her. They stop talking until he comes to her and tells her his true feelings.

During the opening, there will be a voice over which describes the female protagonist and how she is feeling on her first day. There will be a small section of dialogue between the female protagonist and her friend. When they are in class the voice over returns. The voice over is effective because it will be like the female protagonist is talking directly to the audience. The audience will gain a sense of the characteristics and personality of the female protagonists.

Some props which we are going to use is:
  • A school bag
  • A bus
  • A bus stop
  • A sixth form collage
  • Books and folder
The possible settings which we plan on using is a street which is quiet, this could be as she is leaving her house in the morning on her way to school. She then arrives at the bus stop where she sees the male protagonist. Once she is off the bus, she walks down another street and enters her collage. We will be using Therfield Sixth Form for the collage because we both attend here and is the best option for us. We will then need a classroom where the male protagonist will sit at the front and the female protagonist is at the back.

The possible camera angles that we will be using are a variety of close ups of the two protagonist, this allow the audience to be introduce the appearance of the character, and also be using these close ups will also show the protagonist facial expressions. Medium shots will be shown of the protagonist, and the location of the opening, so that the audience can see where the setting of the film is. long shot of the bus stop scene, we will also have shot reverse shot of the protagonist looking at each other. there will more camera angles and they will be listed in the post called 'Shot list'

Update on pitch

Having considered the idea with the phone and text messages, we have decided that this would not be affective in the way we originally wanted it to be. Instead, we have decided that we will use a collage scene to show that she is the new girl at school who attracts attention from the male protagonist. We will do this because in our audience questionnaire the majority age was between 15-19 therefore meaning they are all in school. They would be able to relate the film more this way.

Research Feedback

A fantastic effort so far with theoretical and detailed responses to media texts. Be sure to begin to document every stage of your planning towards your film now – use technical terminology and take us on a journey to completion of your film project. Well done!

Here we have summarised the results from our interview, as we asked some of our cast to be questioned on why they would be suitable for the role. The questions were:

Hayley knight's responses were:
  1. Why would you be good for this role?

8 years of acting experience with stage coach in leatherhead

yes, because i have played many roles before in the past, so i will be able to get into, as the protagonist is antagonist lead a similar role, to what happens in real life.
  4. Who is favourite actor? Why?
Jeromy Irving took role of the "Albert " in war horse very well because he managed to portray a range of emotions and changing his voice to fit the setting in Devon.  I found this very moving because the way he can adapt to different demands through the film
  5. In a romance film, what characteristics would you expect from the protagonist?
From reading the new pitch idea, i think i will be able to play the part of the protagonist's friend, as she will be very bubbly and positive toward the protagonist, but for the protagonist she should be very shy and should have a hidden side as its her first day at college, so typical feelings of trying to fit in with everyone and make new friends is something that everyone goes through, and so the audience can relate to that feeling which the protagonist goes through.

Fahmida's responses were:
    1. Why would you be good for this role?
Past experience in acting- invovled in school production
    2. What acting experience have you had that will help you with this role?
      Been in many school productions

From what I have read from the pitch, I will be able to adapt to the characeter because its something that everyone goes through ie going to college and meeting new people.
    4. Who is favourite actor? Why?
Leoenardo dicapro – main influence able to hold different emotions which fit the genre. The great gatsby- jay gatsby is able to show different hidden emotions, which creates enigma for the audience.
    5. In a romance film, what characteristics would you expect from the protagonist?
From what I've read from the new pitch Shy, not going to like the college, will be able make a few friends, but will eventually show confidence later on in the film.
    Summary:
Fahmida Akther
Fahmida will be good for this role because she has had past experience with acting in which she has been involved with drama for some time. The acting experience which Fahmida has had is she was in a school production where she maintained the role very well. She has thought well about the character who she will be playing as she will portray her natural characteristics which are laid back but funny. This will ensure that she is being the best possible character for the role which she will be playing. If there is a problem then we will go over the script and do a practice run through so that she will know what we are asking her. she says "Leonardo Di Caprio is my favourite actor because he is one of my main influences. He is able to put himself in character which all demand different characteristics which fits within the genre. In 'The Great Gatsby' his role as 'Jay Gatsby' was played well in my opinion as he was able to hold different emotions and be able to hide some to create and enigma for the audience in the beginning of the film." Fahmida expects the protagonist to have a very shy but yet an open personality and should show two different sides of her relating to a situation.

Hayley Knight
Hayley will be good for the antagonist role because she has played many different characters in the past. These have all asked different demands of her which she has successfully portrayed to the audience. The acting experience which Hayley has had is that she attended Stagecoach Leatherhead for 8 years in which she took no breaks suggesting that she is hard working and reliable. She has thought very well about the role in which she will be playing because she has been on stage since she was 7 years old so she will be confident and also know when to over react with body language and her voice. Her favourite actor is Jeremy Irvine, because plays a good role, as he gets emotions through to the audience. She says "Jeremy Irvine took the role of "Albert" in 'Warhorse' very well as he managed to adapt his voice to the Devon accent and also portrayed his role as a 17 year old boy very well. He put his love across for his horse in this film which was very evident to the audience because he was using his body language and also his facial expressions. I found this very moving to watch as he managed to create the emotional role. Jeremy Irvine is my main inspiration whilst I am acting because of the way he can adapt to different demands that different films have for him." Hayley thinks that the protagonist should be a kind and loving person because the genre is a romance but also has a hidden emotion due to the fact the role is about an online relationship and not many people are aware of this. Also, the protagonist should be attractive but with a judgemental and jealous friend who the audience are not meant to like.

Questionnaire for the actors

Interview cast

We have planned a questionnaire for the actors who have read our film pitch to answer to gain more knowledge into their past experience and where they get their inspiration from.

  1. Why would you be good for this role?
  2. What acting experience have you had that will help you with this role?
  3. Have you considered how you could show the character successfully through your body language and voice?
  4. Who is favourite actor? Why?
  5. In a romance film, what characteristics would you expect from the protagonist?
These were the questions which we asked both actors so that we would know what their acting capabilities are. The answers are on the post called "interviewing cast for our opening two minutes"

PROCESSES OF MAKING A FILM

Pre-production- Process of preparing all the elements involved in a film. Pre-production ends when the planning ends and the content starts being produced.

Production- Making of the film

Post-production- It is a word for all stages of production that has happened, after the actual end of shooting and/or recording the completed work. This includes making of motion pictures, video production, photography, TV programs, radio adverts, making the audio and digital art.

Distribution- The business of getting films to their audiences, by putting them into the cinema. They also create marketing campaign, producing poster, trailers, websites, create free previews e.t.c. They also make the films into DVDs for supermarkets, and create the BBFC certificate for the film.

DISTRIBUTION

Lionsgate

Lionsgate is one of the leading global distribution company, with diverse shown of motion picture, motion picture, television, home entertainment, family entertainment, digital distribution and new channel platforms. Films which have been distributed from this company are, the hunger games, the expendables, and divergent series.

Warner brothers

Warner brothers was founded in 1923. its also television, and music entertainment.Produced a wide range of different genres of films each year. Responsible for releasing films to more than 39,000 screens in North America alone. It also distributes to non-theatrical markets including airlines, cruise ships, colleges, hospitals and other smaller markets. Films include The dark knight, the hangover, gravity.

Researching into different distributions, we have thought that Universal and Paramount would suit the best for our own film. From research we have found out that  these distributors usually promote romance films, some include mean girls, the love guru, love actually, bridge jones.

Universal

American film studio owned by comcast (media company) and is Hollywood 'big six' film studios. Universal would be a good distributor for our own  film, as they have promoted many popular romance films such as mean girls, clueless and endless love.

Paramount

Paramount is a film studio, TV production company, and motion picture company, ranked as one of the big six Hollywood studio. I think this would be best suited for our film, because they have distributed many romance films, which are very well known to everyone, including our target audience. These include of Love, Rosie (2014), she is out of my league (2010), no strings attached (2013), these are some for the past film which have been popular during the stated current years.

Target Audience research

Target audience

The target audience that we intend to base our film on is for mainly females aged between 16-25, because the from what we have researched into current films, the main gender specific would be for females, This is because women would usually watch these types of films, as there are events in which they can relate to. Another reason is that women, typically come across as passionate and emotional as a gender, and so will watch these types of film as they will all be able to relate to or have similar interest to. Another reason why women would watch these types of film specifically, because they may want to take relationship advise from the film, as the film might show different solution to different situations, which they might relate to. Also stereo typically women would usually watch these types of films, as romance film would usually show different expectations of how relationships should be. This would make women's expectation on relationships higher, because then women would expect more from a relationship, as they have a set on a specific idea on how relationships should be.

From the pearl and dean website, romance films interest women the most out men, which is shown for the film which I have analysed, show that 64% of women went to see this film. This clearly shows that women are more like to go watch romance films, and the age range show that usually romance films are seen by 15-45 and above, however i have decided that we will have a specific target audience at 15-25 and above, because some of the events would that will be included in the film would appeal to a teenage/younger audience, as these events may have occurred before in there life, such as texting and the use of social media, which an older audience can see, to see how society is changing through the increase use of social media, and how its having an impact on the younger people. In terms of class this shows us that for the sliver lining playbook, have been seen mostly by the top end of the middle/working class, this is because some of the scene may have been relate able and may be that the audience may want to be part of the trends, as it was one of the popular films at the time to watch. However another romance film, The English patient , shows that the target audience is the same, the classes are different, this is because more of the upper class audience went to see this film, this is because this film may show traditional events, which may influence on there actions, or show history which may interest them, so it could educate them as well whilst watching the film.

For our film, I have predicted that our film would be watched my the middle/working class, because the events can be related to them, and since its a new film it will be something to watch, especially for Christmas, as it would be released during that season, and it will be something to watch for couples during Christmas as well as women on there own.

Certificate research

Universal

This certificate represents, that the film will not contain nothing that will not harm or offended them. Some of these types of films with this type of certificate would appeal mostly to children aged between four years and over as well as some of the content will not scare or harm them in any way.

'PG' (parental guidance)

Parental guidance certificates are for general viewing, however some of the scenes might not be suitable for young children. PG films shouldn't affect children around the age of eight or older. Parents are advised to think about what types of content may affect either younger or sensitive children. A child of any age can watch a PG film legally.

12A

12A certificate films, are aimed at children who are under 12, but must have parental guidance to watch the film. However these are not aimed at children under 12, but parents should read the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) for guidance when choosing a film under this category, to tell them if the film is about violence, type of language, sex and horror.

12A AS LIVE
This type of certificate would be provided for the cinema exhibition, to show the information provided by the distributer, without any material being view within the exhibition. These types of films would be suitable for 12 years and over, no one under this age can see a '12A AS LIVE' presentation, unless they have parental guidance. Responsibility is on the parent if they want to allow there children to watch these types of films.

15
This type of certificate, which would be aimed for people aged 15 and above, and no one under this age can see this type of certificate of a film at the cinema. If this occurs the cinema may lose there licence of they allow under 15 into the 15 rating.

18
Films with a 18 rating, are aimed at adults. No one under 18 can see a 18 film at the cinema, if occurred cinema may lose licence for that reason. No theme is restricted at 18. Adults can to choose their own entertainment within the law, so it is possible some themes tackled at 18 may be offensive even to some adult viewers.
