Analysis of audience questionaire

We asked people about the genre romance films, and asking about different conventions within a that genre, we also asked about their interest as well.

From the questionnaire we found out that the age range that watch romance films is mainly the 15-19, this links to a typically convention that around this age these types of people tend watch romance films. The reason behind this could be that the content shown within a romance film may relate to them, as the some of the events that occur, may relate to them, so for example relationships and what they go through, involving a couple, also the problems that they go though, may also relate to real life couples and their relationships and watching these types of films, could give a solutions to different problems that certain relationships go through. Romance films also give the audience set expectations on how relationships and certain events in society should be; people may have certain expectations within relationships, from watching this genre of films, which they want to happen in real life.

       We also asked about what possible settings they would expect in a romance film or to an opening scene, and most for these responses were either as street, park, and school/college. These were most popular because from the questionnaire these came up most frequently. The reason behind this could be that romantic films are mostly set in these locations, and it’s where couple will usually spend time or will have most for the scenes together in those locations. This also could give us an idea of what type of location we should set our opening scene on. The most common places were the park or a school/college. So this will be considered when choosing a location for our opening. Also form the questionnaire we asked what their favourite romance movie was, and based on their choice we got a selection and considering what they include and how that links to the codes and convention of a romance and so have links with them as well.

        We asked the public about what they expect the male and female protagonist's personality, to be like. For the female protagonist we found out that typically they should come across as innocent, flirtatious, friendly and cute. These all should be considered as the audience would expect this type of personality from the female protagonist, so this may be from their experience, as they may have watched previous romance films and should expect these features of the personality from them. For the male protagonist, the public decided that his personality should confident, flirtatious and friendly. This will be considered when choosing cast and how they should act during the opening scene.

         We asked the public about what types of music do they expect to hear in the opening scene pf a romance film, and most of the responses came out with majority saying they would prefer to hear a guitar acoustic, or something soft and gentle. The reason behind this could be that typically in an opening we would usually hear something that is relaxing, but yet introduces the male and female protagonist, or have something that connotes love and relationships. So when choosing music which will be non copy righted music we will consider these aspects when choosing music to put in the background of our opening.

      Lastly we asked about what should be expected in an opening. The most popular response was having a voice over and opening to the setting, and introduction of the protagonists. These are typically shown in a romance and film and should be included, as these are expectations which the audience want to see when watching a romance film. So these will be included in our opening scene so that it fits the codes and conventions of a romance film, and to fulfil the audiences expectations.
