Target audience

The target audience that we intend to base our film on is for mainly females aged between 16-25, because the from what we have researched into current films, the main gender specific would be for females, This is because women would usually watch these types of films, as there are events in which they can relate to. Another reason is that women, typically come across as passionate and emotional as a gender, and so will watch these types of film as they will all be able to relate to or have similar interest to. Another reason why women would watch these types of film specifically, because they may want to take relationship advise from the film, as the film might show different solution to different situations, which they might relate to. Also stereo typically women would usually watch these types of films, as romance film would usually show different expectations of how relationships should be. This would make women's expectation on relationships higher, because then women would expect more from a relationship, as they have a set on a specific idea on how relationships should be.

From the pearl and dean website, romance films interest women the most out men, which is shown for the film which I have analysed, show that 64% of women went to see this film. This clearly shows that women are more like to go watch romance films, and the age range show that usually romance films are seen by 15-45 and above, however i have decided that we will have a specific target audience at 15-25 and above, because some of the events would that will be included in the film would appeal to a teenage/younger audience, as these events may have occurred before in there life, such as texting and the use of social media, which an older audience can see, to see how society is changing through the increase use of social media, and how its having an impact on the younger people. In terms of class this shows us that for the sliver lining playbook, have been seen mostly by the top end of the middle/working class, this is because some of the scene may have been relate able and may be that the audience may want to be part of the trends, as it was one of the popular films at the time to watch. However another romance film, The English patient , shows that the target audience is the same, the classes are different, this is because more of the upper class audience went to see this film, this is because this film may show traditional events, which may influence on there actions, or show history which may interest them, so it could educate them as well whilst watching the film.

For our film, I have predicted that our film would be watched my the middle/working class, because the events can be related to them, and since its a new film it will be something to watch, especially for Christmas, as it would be released during that season, and it will be something to watch for couples during Christmas as well as women on there own.
