Soundtrack anaylsis

The holiday

In the opening to the holiday, the sound track in the background which complements the voiceover, has warm, calming effect, which allows the audience to engage with the film, by setting the atmosphere, to fit the romance genre. The non diegetic sound is quite loud at the beginning of the film as the voiceover wasn't present, which showed the audience, that there is a couple on a honeymoon, and they were dancing and being very intimate towards each other. which shows a typical event of what happens in a romance film, and the music add to the convention that in romance films usually there is an acoustic guitar, or a violin playing throughout the opening. usually the soundtrack is played quite quietly when the voiceover is playing, so we would be considering this when editing our film and adding the sound track in. As the opening is shown the music increases tempo, and this effective, because it tries to show that time has passed with the narratives, for example when she refers to a types of love so when the couple are in the car and shows that the man is no longer interested in the women, and cuts to the setting with the Christmas light, and the music increases tempo, to show that with time love can change. This shows another convention of romance films as the music will refer to the narrative, and can adds to the atmosphere to a scene.

Life as we know it
The non-diegetic sound in the film life as we know it, is quite upbeat, and and continues as the opening is showing the women is getting ready for her date. The music also shows her attitude towards, and shows how she is making an effort for her date. The music also links to the codes and conventions of a romance film, as its a way of showing the female protagonist personality, and the soundtrack creates a romantic atmosphere, with the trumpet being played for short amount of time during the opening of the film. For our own film we will be having some music then have voice over which will link to both the analysis as they use either voice-over then soundtrack or only use one. The soundtrack is effective within a romantic film because it allow create an atmosphere for the audience to sense of what is going on in the opening, so it will make them feel more part of the film as they will experience what the protagonist is feeling in the opening. so it would relate to her in some way, as this may have have happen to them at some point in there life , so watching this film will show and experience and will show a different perspective of how this situation is being shown.

Beastly

The soundtrack for this film links quite closely with story line of the film. As the film is about appearances and the sound track link to that as the they sing about the male protagonist, being known as the perfect looking one, and shows how much effort he puts into his looks, in order to attraction from the public, especially from the high school/college. This identities the target audience for the film through the soundtrack, as the singer sound very feminine, which would appeal mostly toward females, and would gain attraction towards the male protagonist, which will make them feel as if they are apart of the film as well, so they will be apart the experience. The sound track is effective in this opening two minutes as it
links closely about what the film is about, and also reflects intentions from the male protagonist, and this will be shown through his personality. The soundtrack also reflects the codes and convention of a romance film, as it reflects a lot on appearance, to look attractive, and this is seen through the way the male is training, so that is attracts the female audience.
